Where freedom blows through the breeze
And chains remain hidden underneath.
As time goes on, their camouflage starts to dissolves
That Siren song losing its charm
As Brown-headed cowbirds leave their eggs
So have we taken our claim.
To a land that is no more mine than yours
How can we claim what is ours, when what is ours was stolen?
As seeds disperse throughout fields during the wildebeest’s migration
Immigrants have planted their own seeds throughout our country
Bees work to their deaths–
And frankly so do they.
Yet as payment all they receive are cold shoulders
All the while their shoulders work tirelessly to support themselves and their family.
Do we not all have families?
Families we would do almost anything for
In God we trust, but can God trust in us?
How are we allowed to go about spreading the Word of God
When we turn our backs on his greatest creation?
How can any person of God sit there and hear children cry?
Cry as they are being ripped away from their mothers and fathers!
We break them as easily as one would break bread.
Yet all we do is sit;
Sit and say good riddance
Yet we remain blind to what else they are slowly taking from us
As they’ve taken the very thing this country stands for
What so many have died to protect
Instead of moving forward, we’ve regressed
Circling back to the whole reason for a war;
Tens of thousands of our ancestors’ deaths have been in vain
Our systems as easily bought as water
We are no more than bulls
Being poked and jabbed as we’re taunted with the red of the fallen
Only to monopolize on our existence and untimely end
When the people fear the government, that’s tyranny;
When the government fears the people, that’s freedom.
Coin at the Bottom
I dropped the first with clumsy hands, a small, bright wish for painted things, for plastic crowns and paper...
