The Frost Devours the Flame

by | Oct 27, 2026 | Poetry

Another life undone to spark my own
I watch the color vanish from your face
The quietest thief upon a midnight throne
I steal your breath to run my endless race

I choke upon the warmth I stole away,
And beg your quiet corpse to strike me blind.
I am the dark that swallowed up your day,
A living grave for all I leave behind.

I scream at heavens that refused my soul,
And press my cold lips to your cooling cheek.
This blood I take will never make me whole,
It only leaves me broken, tainted, and weak.

How many times must I perform this death?
How many prayers must drown inside my throat?
I loathe the cruel renewal of my breath,
The monstrous dawn on which I am afloat.
