The Love Train

by | Dec 29, 2022 | Poetry

Our love was like a silver passenger train with a blue stripe on it
Right on track with lots of life
It had a horn that would warn the world we were coming
It had lights that would blind deer on the tracks
It was loud and proud on the tracks
It was fast and steady on the rail
It had an engine that never failed
It had a few dents and scratches
But silver passenger trains are still stronger than ever
I felt as if I were the conductor
A conductor proud to lead this train

But now we’re at the end of the track
I feel like I’m the caboose
A caboose being left behind
But a caboose still has a job
A caboose is still a part of the train
But a caboose can’t drive a train

Trains run on coal
We’re out of coal
