Ode to my Childhood Blanket

by | Nov 4, 2025 | Poetry

Warm and delicate
for years and years,
Like a cradle of comfort,
held close

Shrouded in coziness
in an orange-lit room,
Soaked with snot and tears,
Drenched with drool in my slumber,

I clasp when shadows lurk
as I feel fear,
You watched me grow
day by day,

Whether agony decides
to terrorize my peace,
Or a warm Christmas evening
brings me joy and glee,

You wrap me close,
soft with ease
My touch has always craved
your silk

Your smell has been engraved within me–
Full of nostalgia and love,
I cling and cling

Not only you are sets of thread
knitted to one,
But a friend that held
the weight of my memories

As the sun makes its rounds,
you’ve grown torn
Colors melted to a bland shade,
edges go weary,

Still, the warmth
that snuggles me
remains familiar
