Ode to Work Boots

In a truck bed you rest
Tattered and torn
Sliced and scuffed
Enduring,
Mud and dirt
Pavement and asphalt
Skin of a beast
Processed and tanned
Trimmed to perfection
And
Sown to resilience
A helmet of iron
And
A bed of rubber.
Nails, screws, and blades
Any you block
Holes in your shell
Scars of your fights
Memories of your triumphs
