The Warmth of Your Mouth

by | Oct 13, 2026 | Poetry

You grabbed me by my hips and I’m not sure I was ready
But the firmness of your grip gave me an odd sense of security–
A misplaced feeling of safety within this new danger I had found myself fully engulfed in

Your fingers gripped my skin and began to slide up my body to my waist
They dig in just enough to feel the structure of my skeleton
You squeezed–I gasped.
The air fleeted my lungs like moments of never lasting happiness
I felt my organs shift slightly for a moment
A wave of relief crashed through my body because you know exactly where my lungs sit inside me

You continued navigating up the contour of my body
Your hands fully encased my ribcage
The pressure around my soul felt pleasant
You gathered my skin like a fabric made of meat and fat in your grasp
You began removing the flesh from my shoulder blades, ribs, and chest as you split me open at my sternum

I was glad because then we could be closer

As you delve deeper, I could hear my bones begin to crack as if they were sticks on the floor of the woods in the deep south
I could feel your breath in the open cavity in my torso
Your lips were drawn to me- an unstoppable force
I felt your tongue grope my heart as if it were searching for something
Your tastebuds grazed the pulsating vessels of my love

Instead of feeling fear that I was bleeding out on the bathroom floor with you kneeling over me
I was comforted by the warmth of your mouth.
