Once there was a girl in a perfectionist world
Eyes created with the earth in mind, ones that words could never define
Her smile was not perfect, her body was not like a goddess
Yet still adored, her soul left unexplored.
Once there was a girl, full of sorrow
She once was scared that there would be no tomorrow
Yet she tried and attempted, though her life could not be exempted
Soon, she realized her innocence would be compromised.
Once there was a girl, corrupted and obstructed
She was broken, made a token
Wounds not visible to others, they came from her own mother
Yet she smiled, wanting to remain an innocent child.
Once there was a girl, alone in a hospital
She talked to a Doctor and was told, “This will not go on any longer.”
She finally broke, and there she dropped her cloak
Her mother abandoned her belongings, and once again, the girl had no warnings.
Once there was a girl, court-ordered into foster care
She was twelve, and her caseworker delved
The girl had many good days, yet her eyes remained to have this docile gaze
She longed to feel like she belonged.
Once there was a girl, now sixteen
An angsty teen, sometimes feeling unseen
She hates the pity that she remains to get in this new city
Once there was a girl, and all she had were the depths of her soul.
